Martin Smith

Regional Vice President, University Partnerships

Martin is a seasoned enrollment leader with strengths in strategic planning, organizational change, recruitment planning, financial aid leveraging, targeted student search and application generation, yield management, predictive modeling, marketing (traditional and digital), and developing communication plans.

Starting as a road warrior at his alma mater in 1994, Otterbein College (University) in Ohio, Martin has nearly 26 years of experience in higher-education enrollment management and consulting. In addition to his experience as an enrollment management marketing consultant, Martin has served as the chief enrollment officer at both private and public universities including Saint Leo University (FL), Barton College (NC), and the University of New Orleans (LA).

While at Saint Leo University, Martin led efforts that resulted in dramatic growth in both undergraduate and graduate enrollments. His enrollment teams achieved record undergraduate enrollments while managing the institutional discount rate and improving the academic quality of the entering freshman classes. Martin was also an integral part of assisting the University in starting new graduate programs both on ground and online.

At the University of New Orleans, Martin and his enrollment team ended a nearly 10-year enrollment decline. Utilizing his skills at strategic management and enrollment planning as well as organizational change management in his first year at UNO, they increased new freshman enrollment by 15% (largest increase in 10 years) and increased the total undergraduate enrollment for the first time in 8 years. In his second year at UNO, total undergraduate student enrollment increased by 1.8% while graduate enrollment rose 4.8% with increases in diversity, out of state enrollment, and academic quality.

When Martin is not on the road serving our partner institutions in the Southeast, you will find him on a golf course or spending time with his wife, Benet, in Tampa, FL, where they reside. Fun fact: Martin and Benet met at Jacksonville University, where they both worked in admissions.
